Si la vida te ha llevado hasta Japón con el visado Working Holiday (o con cualquier otro visado de residencia), estoy prácticamente segura de que en algún momento te verás en una de estas dos situaciones: (A) Quieres hacer un viajecito a algún país vecino, ¡aprovechando que ahora vives en Asia! (B) Quieres volver por unos días a tu país de origen pero luego regresar a Japón para continuar con tu estancia. Si alguno de estos es tu caso… ¡Este es tu post!
Provided your life has guided you to Japan with a Working Holiday visa (or with any other residence visa), you’ll probably want to visit some neighbour country, or maybe go back to your home country for a few days of holidays but then come back to Japan! In any case, if you’re living in Japan and you’re going temporarily abroad, this is your post!
Cuando consigues el visado Working Holiday a través de la Embajada de Japón en España, te recuerdan personalmente que el visado Working Holiday es «de entrada única». Es decir, que si decides salir por lo que sea y volver a entrar, no vas a poder a no ser que hagas un pequeño papeleo. Y digo pequeño porque ¡verdaderamente es muy pequeño!
At least for us (Spanish), when we get our Working Holiday visa through the Japanese Embassy in Spain, we are personally told that this visa is a «one entry only» visa. This means, if you wanna leave the country for any reason and then return, you’ll need to fill out some certain documents! But don’t panic, these are really small thing! 🙂
¿En qué consiste ese «papeleo»? –>
RE-ENTRY PERMIT
Ese «papeleo» se llama «RE-ENTRY PERMIT» (traducido al español: «permiso de reentrada» y lo encontrarás en el propio aeropuerto cuando vayas a coger tu vuelo al extranjero. Antes de ello no tendrás que preocuparte por nada.
What do these documents consist of? Well, it’s called «RE-ENTRY PERMIT» and you’ll find it at the airport where you’ll fly from. You won’t need to worry at all beforehand. Just go to the airport to take your flight and fill out this paper in that exact moment.
¿Y cuándo y dónde relleno ese papelito? / Where exactly can I find it?
La re-entry card se encuentra entre el control de seguridad (security check) y el control de inmigración (immigration).
The re-entry card stock is located right between the security checkpoint and the immigration checkpoint.
Así que, si ya habías leído por algún blog o red social que era fácil y sencillo, sí, estaban en lo cierto: una vez que pases el control de seguridad de tu maleta, donde se hace la cola para mostrar tu pasaporte, ahí encontrarás una mesa larga y estrecha en la pared con varios casilleros con papeles y bolígrafos. ¡Ahí es donde está tu re-entry card!
So, if you had already read some post about this issue saying it was easy: yes, it is! You will find these documents right after scanning your luggage, and right before (or actually in the front) passing through the passport control. You’ll find there a narrow table on the wall with many «re-entry» cards and a pen to fill it out with.
Coge uno de los papeles del casillero casi fosforito que pone «RE-ENTRY«, y uno de los bolígrafos, ¡y a rellenarlo!
Take one of those and… Just fill it out!
¿Qué piden en el re-entry? / What will they ask you?
Tan solo:
- Apellidos / Family name
- Nombre / Given names
- Fecha de nacimiento / Date of birth
- Destino de tu vuelo (en mi caso «South Korea») / Destination
- Número de tu vuelo (en mi caso «MM005») / Flight number
A continuación, donde pone «intended period out of Japan», te dice que marques una de estas tres casillas:
- Vas a volver a Japón de aquí a un año (que es la validez del permiso de reentrada). Seguramente esta sea tu opción si estás con Working Holiday y simplemente quieres hacerte un viajecito entre medias o visitar tu país.
- Vas a estar fuera más de un año pero menos de dos, con la intención de volver a Japón en ese período de tiempo.
- Vas a estar fuera más de dos años y luego volverás a Japón.
Then, where it says «intended period out of Japan», they ask you to mark one out of these three options:
- You’ll return to Japan within one year (which is the period of time the permit is valid for).
- You’ll return in more than one year but within two years.
- You’ll return in more than two years.
Y por último, tienes que señalar una de estas dos:
- Vas a utilizar tu permiso de reentrada y, por lo tanto, vas a volver a Japón en el período indicado en la opción de arriba. Seguramente esta sea la que marques si estás en la misma situación que yo.
- No tienes pensado volver a Japón haciendo uso de tu permiso de reentrada. Seguramente marques esta en caso de volverte definitivamente a tu país o seguir tu camino por otro país. En cualquier caso, significa que no tienes pensado volver.
And finally, mark one out of these two options:
- You’ll make use of this permit and come back to Japan within the period you marked on the section above. Probably you’ll mark this one if you’re in the same situation as me (just travelling abroad for a short period of time).
- You’re not contemplating making use of the re-entry permit so you’re not supposed to come back to Japan. You’ll probably mark this one if you’re definitely leaving Japan to go back to your home country or to travel a bit or a lot more around the world.
Lo firmas donde pone «signature» y te diriges al control de pasaporte. Allí te pedirán tu pasaporte y el papelito, y te preguntarán seguramente cuándo tienes pensado volver. Yo le dije exactamente el día y el aeropuerto desde el que volvía porque me gusta dejar estas cosas bien claras.
Then you sign it and you head to the passport control desk. There you’ll be asked your passport, this re-entry card and probably when you’re planning to come back to Japan. In my case, I told him exactly the day and airport I would be coming back from. I like to make everything clear in order to avoid misunderstandings.
También te pedirá tu Residence Card (también conocida como Alien Card). Esto es muy importante porque aunque para viajar solo te sirva tu pasaporte, ¡la Residence Card la necesitarás para volver! Es tu manera de demostrar que eres residente en Japón y que por eso mismo necesitas el permiso de reentrada. ¡Así que no se te olvide llevar contigo tu tarjeta de residencia (aquella que te dan en el aeropuerto el día que llegas a Japón y en la que te añaden tu dirección japonesa en la oficina del ayuntamiento)!
You’ll be also asked your Residence Card (aka Alien card). This is very important as, if you are planning to come back to the country, this is the prove that you are a temporary resident in Japan and not a simple tourist. So don’t forget to take your Residence Card with you on your trip!
De hecho, me pidieron también mostrar mi Residence Card en el aeropuerto de Corea del Sur donde cogía mi vuelo de vuelta a Japón.
In fact, they asked me for my Residence Card at the Korean airport where I took my flight back to Japan.
NOTA:
El papelito del re-entry tiene dos partes: la de llegadas (ARRIVAL) y la de salidas (DEPARTURE). Cuando sales de Japón tienes que rellenar la de DEPARTURE (la que te he enseñado antes en las fotos), y cuando llegas, la de ARRIVAL.
NOTE:
The re-entry card has two parts: the one for ARRIVALS and the one for DEPARTURES. Obviously you should fill out the one for departures when you are starting to trip out of Japan and the one for arrivals when you are returning to Japan.
¿Dónde encuentro la parte de ARRIVAL cuando vuelva? / Where do I find the ARRIVAL half of the re-entry card?
Simplemente el empleado en el control de pasaportes a la salida (donde entregas el re-entry al coger tu vuelo en Japón) te lo grapará en tu pasaporte. ¡Así que tu permiso de reentrada se va contigo al viaje!
The employee at the departures immigration control (where you hand your re-entry card) will just staple it to your passport! So your re-entry permit will travel with you!
Cuando llegues de vuelta a Japón, simplemente rellena de nuevo tu nombre, tu fecha de nacimiento y el vuelo con el que has vuelto a Japón (y responde a las preguntitas sobre si eres un criminal total o si eres lo suficientemente bueno como para volver al país). Y en el control de inmigración de la llegada ve directamente a la cola de residentes en Japón (a la que van todos los japoneses) y, al verlo grapado, tomarán tu foto y tus huellas dactilares, ¡y te sellarán la entrada directamente!
Then, when you return to Japan, just fill out that arrival re-entry card with your name, your DOB and your flight number. And in the arrival immigration control, go directly to the «residents in Japan» queue! This means, follow the Japanese people! As soon as they see your re-entry card stapled to your passport, they will stamp your entrance date!
Además, en el vuelo de entrada a Japón te darán el Disembarkation Card y el Customs Declaration, de los que ya te hablé en este post anterior. Sin embargo, parece ser que esta vez solo necesitarás entregar el Customs Declaration (el que has entregar tras pasar la zona de recogida de maletas); ya que, al menos a mí, no me pidieron el Disembarkation Card al pasar por la cola de residentes en Japón en el control de inmigración.
Also, you will be given during your flight to Japan the Disembarkation Card and the Customs Declaration Card. However, it seems this time you’ll only need to hand in the Customs Declaration after passing the luggage pick-up zone. At least in my case I didn’t need to hand in the Disembarkation Card too while passing through the residents queue at the immigration control.

En mi caso, mi check-in en el aeropuerto comenzaba a las 10:35 h. Entre hacer la cola, finalizar mi check-in, pasar por el control de seguridad, rellenar el permiso de reentrada y pasar el control de inmigración, terminé todo a las 11:10 h. Es decir, tan sólo 35 minutos me llevó todo.
My check-in started at 10:35 am so while I queued up, I succeeded in my security check, I filled out the re-entry permit and I passed by the passport check, I finished all at 11:10 am. So everything took me just 35 minutes!
Con esto quiero transmitir que no hay que preocuparse. Simplemente, como siempre, ve con antelación por si tienes dudas en el mismo momento. También puedes preguntarle a los encargados, ellos podrán resolverte allí amablemente cualquier duda.
In conclusion, there’s nothing to worry about. Just arrive to the airport in advance as always recommended and if you have any doubt about the re-entry card you can also ask the airport stuff, who will answer very kindly!
